About online-only secure browser delivery
Tests can be delivered using a web browser in a kiosk mode, or ‘online-only secure browser delivery’, preventing candidates from accessing other programs or files for the duration of the test. Online-only secure browser tests can be taken on Windows, iPad, and Mac devices.
If a test is configured for secure browser delivery, candidates are prompted to enable the relevant kiosk mode after entering their keycode. Unlike the SecureClient application, online-only secure browser delivery is not internet-resilient and a consistent internet connection must therefore be maintained throughout a test.
Speak to your Surpass Customer Success Manager for help with configuring these URLs.
Tests are configured for secure browser delivery through the Secure Browser Mode test setting. For more information on how and where to enable this setting, read ‘Test delivery options’ in About test settings in the Test Wizard.

Taking online-only secure browser delivery tests
To learn about the candidate’s experience starting a test in online-online secure browser mode, which has some different steps to standard browser or internet-resilient SecureClient delivery, read Starting online-only secure browser tests.
Once started, online-only secure browser tests use the Surpass test driver. For more information, read the Using the Surpass test driver documentation. Unlike tests taken in SecureClient for Windows, candidates can exit their test at any time by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del. Once returned to the Enter Keycode screen, they can re-enter their keycode to resume their test.
iPad/Mac devices
Online-only secure browser tests taken on iPad/Mac devices require SecureClient for iPad/Mac to be installed. If SecureClient is not installed, secure browser tests will not launch successfully. For more information on installing SecureClient, read Installing SecureClient.
Candidates can exit their secure browser test on SecureClient for Mac at any time by pressing Cmd + Shift + B + L.
Test centre and administrator guidance
Test centres and administrators using shared Windows devices need to enable Shared PC mode for secure browser delivery to work as expected. For more information on how to do this, read Configure a shared or guest Windows device from the Windows documentation.
Test centres and administrators may also need to refer to the Take a Test app technical reference from the Windows documentation, specifically to ensure that the group policies detailed are not configured on any Windows devices for secure browser delivery to work as expected.
Online-only secure browser delivery limitations
Some Surpass functionality is not supported in tests delivered using online-only secure browser delivery. Expand the following section for a list of these limitations.
