When creating an item, you can leave comments for other Surpass users who might also be working on the same item. You can add an item-level comment that applies to the whole item or an inline comment that refers to a specific piece of written content. This is useful as part of the quality review process, especially in large teams working over a long period of time.
This article explains how to create, view, and reply to both item comments and inline comments.

1. Go to your item’s Edit screen
Select an item in your subject to open it and go to the Edit screen.
2. Leave a comment

Leaving an item comment
Select Comments to open the Comments menu.
Enter your comment in the entry field and submit . The comment is only saved when you submit the item. You can change the comment content at any point before submitting the item, but comment content cannot be changed after the comment is saved.
TIP: If you are the subject’s owner or have the Comment Manager permission, you can post a private comment that is hidden from users with standard Item Authoringpermissions. Select Private comment to post a private comment.
Leaving an inline comment
You can leave an inline comment on any content in a field with the formatting toolbar.
Select the text field to reveal the formatting toolbar.
Select Advanced on the formatting toolbar to reveal more options.
Move your cursor to the location where you want to leave the comment and select Insert Comment .
In the Inline Comments panel, type your comment in the text field. Select Save to submit your comment.
After saving your comment, you can select it in the comment thread to reveal your available options. Use Edit to change the content.
3. View a comment

Viewing item comments
You can view comments in both the Comments menu and the item history.
If an item has unread comments, the Comments button has a notification bubble indicating the number of comments requiring your attention.
Select Comments to open the Comments menu. Comments are listed in chronological order with the latest comment last.
You can also view comments in the item history. Select Item History to open the Item History dialog.
All item comments are listed under Details against their author (Last Edited by) and submission date and time (Last Edited At). You can view both Private and Public comments in the item history. For more information about the item history, read Using the item history.
NOTE: Adding a comment to an item updates the item to the next major version.
Viewing inline comments
You can view inline comments in the Inline Comments panel.
Inline comments are indicated by Comment icons in text fields.
Select a Comment to open the Inline Comments panel and view the comment conversation. The Comment icon changes colour to indicate that it is open. Click away from the Inline Comments panel to close it.
4. Reply to a comment

Replying to an item comment
You can respond to the main item comment thread in the Comments menu.
Select Comments to open the Comments menu.
Comments are listed in chronological order with the latest comment last. Enter your comment in the entry field and select Submit .
You can change your comment at any point before submitting the item, at which point the comment is saved. After saving your item, re-open the Comments menu to see the updated comment thread.
Replying to an inline comment
You can respond to each inline comment individually in the Inline Comments panel.
Inline comments are indicated by Comment icons in text fields.
Select a Comment to open the Inline Comments panel and view the comment. Select the comment to reveal your available actions. Select Reply.
Type your reply in the entry field and select Reply to submit your response.
Your reply now appears under the original comment in the thread.
5. Delete a comment

Deleting an item comment
You can delete item comments in the Comments menu.
Select Comments to open the Comments menu.
Hover over the comment and select Delete to remove any comments.
NOTE: Only Subject Owners and users with the Comment Manager permission can delete comments that have been saved against an item.
Deleting an inline comment
You can delete inline comments in the Inline Comments panel.
Inline comments are indicated by Comment icons in text fields.
Select a Comment to open the Inline Comments panel and view the comment. Select the comment to reveal your available actions. Select Delete.
TIP: You can remove comment threads by deleting the top level comment.
