When creating an item set, you can leave comments for other Surpass users who might also be working on the same item set. You can add item set-level comments that apply to the whole item set or an inline comment that refers to the item set’s shared question text. This is useful as part of the quality review process, especially if multiple users are working on the same item set.
This article explains how to create, view, and reply to both item set comments and inline comments.
1. Go to your item set’s Edit screen
Select an item set in your subject to open it and go to the Edit screen.

Leaving an item set comment
You can leave one comment per item set.
Select Comments to open the Comments menu.
Enter your comment in the entry field and submit . The comment is only saved when you save the item set. You can change the comment content at any point before saving the item set, but comment content cannot be changed after the comment is submitted.
Leaving an inline comment
You can leave an inline comment on the item set’s shared question stem with the formatting toolbar.
Select the text field to reveal the formatting toolbar.
Select Advanced on the formatting toolbar to reveal more options.
Move your cursor to the location where you want to leave the comment and select Insert Comment .
In the Inline Comments panel, type your comment in the text field. Select Comment to submit your comment.
After saving your comment, you can select it in the comment thread to reveal your available options. Use Edit to change the content.

Viewing item set comments
You can view comments in both the Comments menu and the item set history.
If an item set has unread comments, the Comments button has a notification bubble indicating the number of comments requiring your attention.
Select Comments to open the Comments menu. Comments are listed in chronological order with the latest comment last.
You can also view comments in the item set history. Select Item History to open the Item History dialog.
All comments are listed under Details against their author (Last Edited by) and submission date (Last Edited at). You can view Private and Public comments in the item set history. For more information, read Using the item set history.
Viewing inline comments
You can view inline comments in the Inline Comments panel.
Inline comments are indicated by the Comment icons in the item set’s shared question stem.
Select a Comment to open the Inline Comments panel and view the comment conversation. The Comment icon changes colour to indicate that it is open. Click away from the Inline Comments panel to close it.
