Adding video to an item set

NOTE: The accepted video file types are AVI, MOV, MP4, MPEG, and WMV.

You can add videos to item sets in Item Authoring. Videos can be used to support question content or as a visual aid for candidates. Video added to item sets appear above or below each item’s question stem when they are delivered to candidates in a test.

This article explains how to add video to item sets, including how to configure video player options.

1. Go to your item set’s Edit screen

Select an item set in your subject to open it and go to the Edit screen.

2. Open the media library

In the Edit screen, choose Select Media to open the media library. For more information about the media library, read About the Surpass media library.

Finding media

By default, files in the Select Media dialog are ordered alphabetically by name. To find a specific media file, you can search or re-order files.

Type into the search bar to filter the Select Media dialog in real time. Surpass looks up your search string in media files’ names.

Use the Order by menu to re-order the contents of the Select Media dialog by the most recently updated first (Last Updated), file names in alphabetical order (Title), or file types in alphabetical order (Type).

3. Choose your video

NOTE: The maximum video file size is 20MB.

Choose your video and select Add media. You can preview your video before adding it to your item set.

Select Add media to add another video file to your item set. You can add up to 30 media files to an item set.

Select Expand to enlarge your video.

Select Remove to delete your video from the item set.

Additional options

IMPORTANT: You can only configure the additional options for MP4 video files. For more information about MP4 video files, read About Site Settings options.

NOTE: MP4 files added as media and embedded into the on-screen test are only supported in HTML tests.

You can configure the video player options for your video.

Select Additional Options to open the options menu.

Setting	Description
Media Player Mode	Standard – Candidates must manually start video playback. Autoplay – Video plays automatically when candidates open the item. NOTE: Autoplay is only supported in HTML tests.
Control Options	Show Media Player Controls – Candidates have access to all video controls, including: Play Pause Skip to start/end Progress bar Playback speed Volume Mute Hide Media Player Controls – Candidates only have access to volume and mute controls. NOTE: If Standard media player mode is selected, candidates can used a play button to start the video.
Play Options	Limit Media Plays – Restrict the number of times video can be played. No. of Plays – Specify how many times candidates can play the video. NOTE: When the number of plays is exceeded, candidates cannot play the video.
Audio Waveform	IMPORTANT: Audio Waveform is only compatible with MP3 audio files. For more information, read Adding audio to an item set and Adding audio to an item.

Adding video as source material

NOTE: If you add video as source material, you have no control over hiding or showing controls.

You can also add video to item sets as source material. For more information, read Adding source material to an item.

4. Choose your layout

You can determine the video’s layout by selecting a Choose Layout option. Video added to item sets can be positioned above or below each item’s individual question text when they are added to an item set.
