The Users area of SecureMarker is where you can create and edit users. This includes assigning global-level roles to users. A user can view responses, mark scripts, and perform administrative tasks.
Managers create, edit, and finalise tasks. Managers decide which assignees work on a task, who the lead assignees are, and can monitor the progress of tasks.
In Surpass, you can leave comments on items, test forms, and candidates’ responses. Comments are useful as part of the quality review process, especially in large teams working over a long period of time.
Computer-marked items are set up with correct answer options during authoring, meaning that candidates are automatically awarded marks if they select or enter the correct answer.
In Authoring and Review tasks, one or more assignees must be chosen to lead the team. Any assignee can be made a lead assignee for a given task. Lead assignees are elected by managers on a task-by-task basis and have unique responsibilities depending on the task type (for example, lead assignees in Individual Review tasks can make final decisions on items).
In Surpass, items, tests, tasks, and candidates each have a unique reference code that is used to differentiate entities in the database.
Search parameters allow you to find items in your subjects when adding content to fixed and dynamic sections in Test Creation.
A shared resource is a piece of source material that can be used on multiple items in a test. PDFs must be added as shared resources in order to be opened in the Surpass PDF viewer within the test driver.
If a candidate’s script is flagged for re-marking in Audit, it can be re-marked in the Re-mark screen. This includes re-assigning marks, adding comments, and viewing items’ marking histories.
In SecureMarker, examiners cannot mark candidate responses unless they are assigned a quota for specified items. Quotas can either be unlimited or for a fixed number of responses. You can assign quotas in the Quotas screen.
You can set up a daily competency run to present examiners with control items every day when they start marking for the first time. This allows you to ensure the quality of marking on a daily basis before examiners start marking actual responses.
In the Surpass Test Wizard, a formative test is a digital examination used to monitor candidates’ progress in the course. Formative tests usually account for a small degree of candidates’ final course marks. Formative Test Wizard tests are delivered in a web browser and allow candidates to instantly see their mark upon completion, providing that all items are computer marked.
General tasks are useful for setting deadlines and prompting users to perform certain actions in Surpass. Use General tasks for actions that cannot be tracked in Authoring or Review tasks (for example, creating users or tests).
In Surpass, you can archive subjects rather than deleting them. This preserves the subject’s data whilst preventing any new tests from being created using its content.
Users and candidates in Surpass both have expiry dates that are set when the accounts are created. An expired user cannot log in to Surpass and an expired candidate cannot be scheduled for any tests. You can extend an expired user or candidate’s expiry date to re-enable. The default expiry date is ten years from the creation date.
SecureAssess is a legacy Surpass Platform test administration tool used for the delivery of high-stakes examinations created in versions of Surpass prior to Release 12. SecureAssess has been superceded by the Test Administration section in Surpass 12.
A Drag and Drop question consists of text-based “drag options” that candidates must place in the appropriate “drop zones”. The available drag options might include incorrect answers (or “distractors”) that are not associated with any drop zone.
